God and Sneezing

Daily living often paints the most profound pictures and teaches the deepest lessons so reflective of the amazing heart of God.

I heard a daycare worker sneeze this morning, and I noted the delight of the children around her. I believe she sneezed twice, such that it caught the attention of the very little kids. Then, cleverly, she used their glee to joyful advantage and after her second sneeze exclaimed, "Oh, my goodness! What was in there?"  Everyone laughed.

This reminded me of God's conviction and cleansing of His children.

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9
How many times have you applied that truth to sneezing?  Yep... neither have I.  :0)
We're taught that God doesn't deal in condemnation, but rather conviction.  We've rehearsed the truth that condemnation's weaponry is brutal and accusatory, but Holy Spirit's gentle conviction simply says - "Not that way, this way," bringing us to what's been tagged an "Aha!" moment.

Enter the onomatopoeic link to sneezing.

"Aha!" mimics the involuntary breath we take just prior to being crumpled inside the powerful grip of a sneeze.  Then, what sound accompanies the release of all foreign matter?  Often a loud and forceful, "Choo!" Right? Much resembling the words, shoo and eschew, in my opinion.

Shoo: "To drive away unwanted or annoying people, animals, (things), etc."
Eschew: "To abstain or keep away from; shun, avoid."

It just fits, y'all (and you've gotta love dictionary.com)!  I believe our Heavenly Father has drawn an analogy to beat all analogies of simple human function by linking His powerful, merciful, search-and-destroy mission of convicting and cleansing us of sin to the humble, helpful, and holy... sneeze.

In one animated swoop of evacuating expression, Daddy illustrates how He brings to us the "Aha!" of conviction, swiftly followed by the "shoo!" or "eschew!" power-wash of cleansing from sin!  Saints, I ask you... who is like unto our God?!  And who can even come close to creating His parabolic lessons shining light on His life-changing goodness and spotless ways?  Hiyah!  NO ONE, that's who!

So, beloved, the next time you sneeze try to remember to thank our God for His loving kindness and faithful forgiveness and cleansing of our souls and bodies from sin...

... and then always grab a tissue!  =0)

"... fervent in spirit, serving the Lord."
(Romans 12:11b)
